Acropora efflorescens (often just called Efflo) is a classic table-form Acropora known for its bold, architectural look and intense coloration under strong reef lighting.
-
Growth form:
Grows as a flat to slightly domed table with short, neat branchlets radiating outward from a central base. Mature colonies form wide plates that can shade large areas below them. -
Corallites:
Small, evenly spaced radial corallites with a smooth, clean surface, giving the coral a refined, almost “polished” appearance. -
Coloration:
Highly variable and lighting-dependent. Common color morphs include:
- Bright green with blue or purple tips
- Turquoise or teal plates
-
Cream, tan, or pastel bases with contrasting growth margins
Under strong blue/actinic light, many efflos show electric neon hues. -
Polyps:
Short, fine polyps that extend mostly at night, giving subtle movement rather than a fuzzy look.
