Acropora donei is a distinctive SPS Acropora appreciated for its compact branching, sharp corallite texture, and refined, spiky look. It’s less commonly seen than many trade staples, which gives it a bit of collector appeal.
🌿 Description
-
Growth form:
Forms short, upright to slightly angled branches that create a tight, bushy colony. The overall structure is compact and orderly rather than sprawling or tabling. -
Corallites:
Features prominent, angular radial corallites that project outward unevenly, giving the branches a crisp, thorny texture. Axial corallites are well-defined but not overly elongated. -
Coloration:
Wild specimens are often tan to brown, but in aquariums with strong lighting and stable nutrients, it can develop:
- Greens and yellow-greens
- Cream or pastel bases
-
Blue or purple highlights on tips and corallite lips
Color tends to emphasize contrast and detail rather than extreme saturation. -
Polyps:
Short to moderate polyp extension. Healthy colonies show visible PE, especially during daylight hours, but it’s more “clean” than fluffy in appearance.
