Found singly or in male-female pairs on protected coastal reefs. Territorial — provide plenty of live rockwork with visual barriers and bolt holes, as well as open swimming space. Keep only one specimen per tank, and not with any other angelfish. Tank mates should be equally large and robust. Best introduced as the last addition to the aquarium, as it can behave pugnaciously when new tank mates are introduced into what it perceives as its established domain.

Origin:
Found in the Indo-West Pacific Ocean, ranging from the eastern coast of Africa from the southern Red Sea south as far as South Africa, east across the Indian and Pacific Oceans to Fiji, Tonga, and Samoa, as far north as southern Japan and south to Australia.

Diet:
In the wild they feed on algae, tunicates, and sponges. The aquarium diet should include spirulina, chlorella, marine sheet algae, occasional high-quality angelfish preparations with sponge included, and mysis or frozen shrimp. Should be fed at least three times daily to help reproduce natural reef grazing behaviour.

Reef Safe: ❌ Not Reef Safe

Feeds on many sessile invertebrates in the wild, including sponges, soft corals, stony corals, tunicates, and will also nip at tridacnid clam mantles — it is not a safe species for the reef aquarium.

Characteristics:

• The common name “Koran Angelfish” comes from the juvenile’s curved pattern on the body, said to resemble Arabic script in the Koran.
• Juvenile fish look very different from adults — young fish are dark blue/black with numerous thin white and light blue stripes over the body. At the head end the stripes are quite straight, becoming increasingly more arced toward the caudal peduncle.
• As an adult, the body colour is a yellow-green that fades from light to dark moving front to back. Lighter areas are speckled blue while darker areas have a yellow-speckled appearance.
• Requires a 200-gallon (750 litre) or larger tank as an adult, with an 18+ inch width and large amounts of live rock for hiding and grazing.
• Recommended water conditions: 72–78°F, KH 8–12, pH 8.1–8.4, salinity 1.020–1.025.
• Can reach up to 38 cm (15 inches) in the wild — not suitable for small or medium aquariums long-term

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0668/5553/4701/files/FullSizeRender_117f3f16-023c-422b-8cb8-e9ce5f961935.jpg?v=1781444134
